Indian-origin security guard jailed for pocketing wallet at condominium in Singapore

An Indian-origin security guard at a condominium in Singapore was sentenced to three weeks' jail for stealing a wallet valued at SGD 1,800 and SGD 500 in cash. The guard, A. Murugaiya, admitted to the crime and kept the wallet and money for himself, only returning the wallet after being confronted by the victim and his supervisor. The prosecutor highlighted the high level of trust placed in Murugaiya as a security officer and the total value of the misappropriated item, which amounted to at least SGD 2,300. Murugaiya could have faced up to seven years in jail for his actions.
