2 Indian-origin men jailed in UK for smuggling drugs hidden in farm produce

Two Indian-origin men were sentenced to 34 years in prison in the UK for smuggling drugs hidden in farm produce from Africa and South America. Anand Tripathi and Varun Bhardwaj were also convicted of evading import duties on cigarettes. The scheme involved using their freight company to clear shipping containers that held drugs and diverting them to a warehouse they controlled. The illicit shipments were offloaded by organized crime groups. The men imported 272.86 kilograms of cocaine and 2,503.36 kilograms of cannabis across four shipments.
