Indian-origin healthcare unionist elected president of Singapore's largest labour group

Indian-origin healthcare unionist K Thanaletchimi has been appointed as president of the National Trades Union Congress in Singapore. Thanaletchimi takes over from Mary Liew and will serve a four-year term. She has served in various roles in the unions and was the driving force behind the merger of the National University Hospital Employees' Union and the Health Corporation of Singapore Staff Union. Thanaletchimi has been leading the Healthcare Services Employees' Union since 2011.
