Indian national sentenced to 16 ys' jail for raping university student in Singapore

A 26-year-old Indian national has been sentenced to 16 years in jail and 12 strokes of the cane in Singapore for raping a university student in 2019. The man, a cleaner, stalked the student late at night, pointed her in the wrong direction, and then attacked and raped her in a forested area. The victim suffered severe injuries and trauma from the incident. The delay in the case was due to the perpetrator's mental condition requiring psychiatric evaluation. The prosecution argued for a harsh sentence, highlighting the extreme violence and premeditation of the attack.
