Indian Americans react to California Governor’s veto of ‘caste’ Bill

California Governor Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that aimed to explicitly ban caste discrimination in the state. The bill, SB 403, was passed by the California state legislature but was deemed unnecessary by Newsom, who cited existing laws prohibiting ancestry discrimination. Indian Americans and community organizations expressed their gratitude to Newsom for his decision, stating that the bill was redundant and could have had a detrimental impact on the community.
